Overview

A complete redesign and platform transition was completed for a New York–based childcare network seeking a more scalable and user-friendly digital presence. The project involved migrating the organization from Squarespace to WordPress, developing a dynamic childcare provider search system, and implementing a stronger SEO foundation. The new website was designed to improve navigation, expand functionality, and better support families searching for childcare services across the region.

Challenges

The existing Squarespace website lacked scalability, advanced functionality, and the flexibility needed to support a growing childcare provider directory. Key challenges included:

  • Limited backend capabilities for managing a large volume of childcare provider data

  • No advanced search or filtering system for parents

  • Poor SEO structure and constrained opportunities for optimization

  • The risk of data loss or SEO disruption during migration

The network needed a robust, future-ready platform that improved usability while preserving its long-standing online credibility.

Approach

1. Strategic Migration Planning

I executed a carefully structured migration from Squarespace to WordPress, focusing on stability, accuracy, and continuity. This included:

  • Comprehensive data audit and mapping

  • Rebuilding all existing pages with improved layout and structure

  • Ensuring 301 redirects, metadata preservation, and SEO-safe implementation

  • Re-creating essential functionalities in a more scalable, flexible environment

2. Development of a Custom Search Database

A core component of the redesign was the creation of an intelligent search system that allowed families to easily locate childcare providers. I developed and integrated:

  • A custom database powered by WordPress custom post types and advanced fields

  • Search filters based on location, services, provider type, pricing, and ratings

  • A responsive, user-friendly interface optimized for quick browsing

  • Backend tools allowing administrators to update provider details efficiently

This transformed the platform from a static directory into an interactive, high-value resource for parents.

3. SEO Optimization & Performance Enhancements

To increase visibility and improve organic search ranking, I implemented:

  • SEO-friendly site structure and URL hierarchy

  • Optimized metadata, headings, alt tags, and schema markup

  • Faster load times through image optimization and caching

  • Clean, crawlable code aligned with Google best practices

The redesigned site now supports long-term SEO growth with a strong technical foundation.

Outcome

The completed project delivered a modern, scalable, and highly functional website that significantly improved both user engagement and search performance. Key results include:

  • A smooth migration with no impact on existing traffic or content

  • A powerful search experience that allows users to find childcare providers quickly and intuitively

  • Increased organic visibility due to refined architecture and SEO improvements

  • Expanded reach and stronger online authority for the childcare network

  • A more trustworthy, professional digital presence that supports the organization’s mission and serves parents more effectively
